Description
Poggio Petroso Riserva Duca della Corgna, is made from 100% Trasimeno Gamay grapes, and is the result of the selection and manual harvesting of the best grapes from a single vineyard located in the Municipality of Panicale, for an annual average of 3500 bottles. Given the age of the vineyard and its size we are about 40/45 quintals/ha of grapes harvested per year for a 25 hl/ha of wine produced, with this label the winery wanted to propose a small selection of bottles of the territotio, to tell the stories and the magic of the place from which it comes.
Vinification
In the vineyard, the bunches of grapes are thinned out during the veraison phase in order to preserve the best bunches. At the time of harvesting, a rigorous manual selection makes it possible to vinify the highest quality bunches, which are destemmed and softly pressed. The must is transferred to small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature and fermentation takes 10-12 days, followed by maceration for another 20 days or so. Malolactic fermentation takes place in steel.
Refinement
After malolactic fermentation, the first stage of refinement takes place in large French oak barrels, where it rests for 12-14 months. After ageing in wood, it rests for a few months in steel vats and is then prepared for bottling, where it remains for a further 10-12 months before being recognised as a Riserva.

Tasting Notes | In the glass it is a lively and intense ruby red, taking on garnet-coloured hues as it matures in the bottle. The nose releases floral aromas of roses and myrtle berries, the purest and most original expression of Gamay del Trasimeno. As the wine matures in the bottle, the aromas become increasingly complex and intriguing, and are also reminiscent of wild fennel and hints of Mediterranean herbs. In the mouth it has a sweet and inviting entrance, soft, structured, with a gentle and velvety tannin. |
