Description
Poggio alle Nane Fattoria Le Mortelle, comes from the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometres from Castiglione della Pescaia, in an extraordinary and fascinating location, both for its nature and for the history of the places that surround it. The estate is set in the centre of a small amphitheatre, facing the sea, which mitigates the climatic conditions. The soil, of medium texture, sandy and loamy, has a predominantly siliceous-clayey composition and is, in certain areas, rich in skeleton. These are soils that tend to heat up easily, favouring the development of the vegetative cycle of the vines. Poggio alle Nane is the result of blending the best grapes of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Carménère, where one of the most vocated areas of the estate is capable of producing grapes of extraordinary quality.
Vinification
The harvest began at the end of September with the Cabernet Franc, characterised by spicy aromas, and continued a week later with the Cabernet Sauvignon, characterised by fragrances of ripe black fruit. The harvest concluded with the Carménère in early October, with grapes capable of giving the wine structure and complexity. The grapes, carefully chosen and hand-picked into crates, were sorted again on sorting tables before destemming and soft crushing. The crushed grapes were transferred by gravity into stainless steel conical tanks, where fermentation took place. Maceration lasted about 20 days at a controlled temperature of 28°C.
Refinement
This was followed by malolactic fermentation, which took place in barriques, and subsequent ageing in French oak for about 16 months.

Tasting Notes | In the glass it has an intense ruby red colour. On the nose, spicy and balsamic hints of cloves, coffee and liquorice stand out, which combine with notes of ripe black fruit, such as plum and blackcurrant, complement delicate mentholated aromas. The palate is rich, elegant, enveloping and with vibrant tannins. The finish is persistent and marked by sensations of roasted coffee, dark chocolate and currants. |
