Description

Lamaione Frescobaldi, a great wine born on the CastelGiocondo estate in Montalcino. Faglia Frescobaldi, animated by the courage that every person has who wants to undertake, planted the first Merlot vines in the 1970s on an unusual terrain at an altitude of 300 metres above sea level, on sea-clay soils with a south-westerly exposure. An important challenge that in 1991 saw the birth of this wine, a lone, powerful and proud knight in the Montalcino panorama.

Vinification
The grapes are carefully selected and harvested by hand in boxes. Once in the cellar, destemming was followed by manual sorting of the grapes. Fermentation took place in temperature-controlled steel tanks.

Refinement
The wine was then aged for 24 months in 80% new French oak barriques, followed by a further 12 months in bottle. At the end of this process the wine was ready for release on the market.

Sommelier Suggestion We recommend pouring the wine into the decanter for a few hours to allow it to aerate and awaken all the aromas. This wine is one of the great Italian red wines particularly suitable for ageing. Remarkable already if drunk now, but we suggest to let it rest in the cellar to reach a full and harmonious maturity, with important aromatic evolutions. Ageing capacity of over 10 years.
Tasting Notes In the glass it is an intense, impenetrable ruby red colour. On the nose, wonderful hints of cherry jam and plum. The hints of rhubarb, graphite, dark chocolate, liquorice and roasted coffee notes are also intriguing. In the mouth it is warm, soft and round. The tannic texture is remarkable with a dense yet silky texture.
Pairing Advice
Pairing The right companion for long cooking dishes such as a braised, stewed or barbecued meat. Also good with mature or blue cheeses.
