Description
Guidalberto Tenuta San Guido, is an elegant and intense red wine, born of the desire to produce a wine with a less complex drinkability than Sassicaia. It does not wish to tread in its footsteps but rather to propose itself as a wine that recounts another vocation of Tenuta San Guido's terroir. The wine is named after the four-grandfather of Nicolò della Gherardesca, who led the Tenuta for decades, a pioneer of agricultural conversion. The first vintage released was 2000.
Vinification
The harvest, all carried out by hand, began with the Merlot from the end of August and continued from September with the Cabernet Sauvignon to be completed at the end of September. Grapes were sorted in the field during manual harvesting and then selected on arrival in the winery using a sorting table. Soft pressing and destemming of the bunches to avoid pressure on the grapes and excessive release of tannin. Alcoholic fermentation conducted in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature maintained at around 27-29°C, without the addition of external yeasts. Maceration with frequent pumping-over in the air and délestage to obtain more balanced musts, favouring aromatic extraction and softening the tannins. Malolactic fermentation, which began at the end of October and was completed in mid-November, was also conducted in steel without inoculation.
Refinement
At the end of the malo-lactic fermentation, and after a rotation of racking to ensure cleanliness, the wine begins its period of ageing in French and a small part American oak barriques (5% to 7%), for a period ranging from 12 to 15 months, decided according to the seasonal trend that characterised the vintage.

Tasting Notes | In the glass it is a brilliant ruby red colour. The nose is bewitching with notes of wild red fruits, enriched by hints of coffee and nuances of Mediterranean scrub. In the mouth it is full and powerful, with refined, sweet tannins and a savoury, mineral acidity accompanying the long, lingering finish. |

Pairing | Perfect with red meats, it is ideal with first courses with meat sauces, game and mature cheeses. |
