Description
Chiusa di Pannone Sagrantino di Montefalco Antonelli, organic is produced exclusively with selected Sagrantino grapes from a single vineyard of 2.70 hectares. Located in the heart of the Montefalco appellation, in Località San Marco at an altitude of 400 metres above sea level, with southern exposure, we find a cultivation of rows oriented according to the slope of the land. The soil type is of Pleistocene origin, calcareous clay, rich in gravel and fluvio-lake conglomerates. Chiusa, as we find in the name of this wine, meant a circumscribed olive grove bordered by stone walls. The Antonelli winery planted this vineyard in 1995, where the homonymous wine is produced exclusively.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested manually during the coolest hours of the day, usually from mid-October. Once in the cellar, the bunches are carefully selected and then gravity-driven into stainless steel maceration tanks where they are left to ferment in contact with the skins for three to four weeks at a controlled temperature of around 28° C. Malolactic fermentation will then take place in wood.
Refinement
Maturation initially takes place for 48 months in tonneaux and oak barrels, concluding with 6 months in cement before bottling.

Sommelier Suggestion | This wine is one of the great Italian red wines particularly suited to ageing. It requires a long period of ageing to reach full and harmonious maturity, and its power and structure guarantee extraordinary longevity over time, with important aromatic evolutions. This is why it will reach full expression 10-15 years after the harvest. |
Tasting Notes | In the glass, it is an intense garnet red colour with great depth. On the nose you can immediately notice cherries in spirit and black pepper that make way for toasted tobacco, leather and coffee. In the mouth you can perceive the power and warmth of this wine. Imperious tannins that cleanse the mouth with every sip make it endlessly persistent. |
Pairing Advice | |
Pairing | Perfect companion for grilled meat with a good fat content, such as pork, lamb, goose and beef with strong marbling. A worthy companion to large stews, game and blue and mature cheeses. |
