Description

Umbrian Artisan Torciglione Bolognami, also known as Serpentone, Serpentone is a Christmas cake of ancient tradition from the Lake Trasimeno area, probably of Medieval origin. It is said that the eels of the lake inspired its shape, and legend has it that the nuns of Isola Maggiore del Trasimeno, having to welcome visiting high prelates of the Pope on a Friday, and not being able to serve fish because of a frost, prepared this delicacy with the ingredients in their larder. Made simply with almonds, flour, grated lemon rind and other natural flavourings.
