Tenuta di Salviano

Tenuta di Salviano

The Tenuta di Salviano has two bases, one to the right and the other to the left of Lake Corbara, in the communes of Orvieto and Baschi, covering a total area of two thousand hectares. The farm and the village of Titignano are located on the southern slope of Monte Peglia, on a terrace overlooking the Forello Gorges, the winery and the Tenuta di Salviano are located on the left bank of Lake Corbara, in the heart of Orvieto Classico production. The estate owes its name to the Salviano Castle, which stands on the southern shore of the lake, the site of the wine-making cellar, entirely dug out of tuff. Of the two thousand hectares belonging to the Incisa Corsini family, which extend over the hills around Lake Corbara about ten kilometres east of Orvieto, about seventy are devoted to the cultivation of vineyards. Both indigenous and international grapes are cultivated, but the winery, given the advantage of the southern position of Lake Corbara and the white wines, has focused more on those, especially with Tuscan Trebbiano, called Procanico, and Grechetto. In fact, it is precisely Orvieto Classico DOC that represents the benchmark of production. The northern coast, warmer and with the most suitable soils, is suited to the cultivation of red varieties such as cabernet sauvignon, merlot, pinot noir and sangiovese. The estate cultivates sustainably and makes as little use as possible of chemicals and pesticides. The exposure of the vineyards varies from south-west to east-south-east. The estate produces a number of fine white wines, such as Salviano di Salviano, an Umbria Bianco I.G.T. made from Procanico, Grechetto, Sauvignon and Chardonnay, Salviano, an Orvieto Classico Superiore with great personality and Vendemmia Tardiva. Among the red wines to be mentioned are Turlò, DOC Lago di Corbara, created from a skilful blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon, and Solideo, a red wine of great structure. The love for the land and the prevalent cultivation of indigenous vines, together with careful care of the vineyards, lead to the creation of the Salviano wines, interesting wines that can be considered expressions of great quality of the territory.
