Montemercurio
The Cantina Montemercurio located on the slopes of the Colle di Montepulciano enjoys a breathtaking view of the Temple of San Biagio and is the old residence of the grandparents. The Anselmi family in fact decided to keep the original structure, making some small extensions to make the production functional. The Cellar is located in two different places, the first structure is located near the vineyards, while the second structure is dedicated to refining, with wooden barrels of various sizes. Since the early years Montemercurio has decided to focus production on a very traditional style, which is why we only use traditional large barrels of various sizes and different types of wood, from Slavonian oak to French oak. This choice was made to keep the flavors of our grapes intact and unchanged, raising all the characteristics of the wine through aging without changing its aromatic texture, thus finding in the glass all the nuances of our land. In the early 1960s Grandfather "Damo" planted the first vine shoot, he probably did not know that a real wine excellence would be born from that gesture. After his death, the Anselmi family committed to making that small vineyard of only 3 hectares the spearhead of a larger project, producing quality wine capable of telling the story of our land. About 50 years later, between 2000 and 2003, the family began the expansion works by planting 7 hectares of fine grapes including Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and other local varieties. After years of hard work and projects, in 2007 Montemercurio was born with its first harvest, led by a very young Marco Anselmi, who at the age of 19 with passion and a lot of dedication decided to carry on the work of his grandparents. The Anselmi family chose the name Montemercurio after numerous studies and researches, precisely because it was a name well rooted in the history of Montepulciano. In fact it is said that in ancient times, where the Fortress of Montepulciano now dominates, there was a Roman temple dedicated to the God Mercury, Messenger of the Gods, this structure gave the hill the name of "Mons Mercurius". Like this mythological figure, Montemercurio wine is born from the ambition to tell a Message in every glass through the most authentic and characteristic flavors of the Polizian lands
