Description

Brunello di Montalcino Biondi Santi, produced from the Greppo vineyards that are between 10 and 25 years old, from a particular type of Sangiovese Grosso grape, clone BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi, vine no. 11), expertly identified and selected by the Biondi Santi. It is the first Brunello in history and has embodied for 150 years the vision that inspired Clemente Santi in the 19th century to create its first expression. Today, as then, it is a distinct wine with a complex and refined personality. A year marked by the absence of rain. In spring, a late frost followed by little rainfall and not very high temperatures. The latter rose significantly above seasonal averages at the end of May. The summer was very hot and dry.

Vinification and Maturation
Harvesting began on 11 September and was carried out in a few days, strictly by hand. After this first operation, the long process of vinification proper takes place. Vinification takes place in vitrified cement containers using indigenous yeasts from the vineyards. It is then matured in Slavonian oak barrels for at least three years, followed by ageing in bottles for at least another four months.

Sommelier Suggestion We recommend pouring the wine into the decanter for a few hours to allow the wine to aerate to awaken all the aromas. This wine is one of the great Italian red wines particularly suitable for ageing. Remarkable already if drunk now, but we suggest to let it rest in the cellar to reach a full and harmonious maturity, with important aromatic evolutions. Ageing capacity of over 25 years.
Tasting Notes In the glass, it is a light ruby red colour. The nose is rich, with crisp fruity notes of black cherry, blood orange and small red berries that are accompanied by balsamic and herbal sensations. In the mouth, energy and sweetness merge with elegance and balance. Silky tannins caress the palate and lead towards a long aftertaste consistent with the fruity notes perceived on the nose, while the final sapidity leaves us with a great sensation of freshness.
Pairing Advice
Pairing It goes splendidly with refined dishes of game or noble red meats. Able to impress in tasting with mature or blue cheeses and structured first courses.
