Description
Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura Banfi, is perhaps the best expression of Banfi's terroir, grape variety and working method. A name linked to the history of Sangiovese and Brunello, which with this wine concludes a painstaking work of selection of clones chosen within the estate, united together in a single-varietal blend of complexity and finesse. The vineyards are located in the hilly surroundings of Castello di Poggio alle Mura, at an altitude between 210 and 220 metres above sea level. The Banfi estate has a total area of no less than 2,830 hectares, divided between vineyards, crops, fruit trees, olive groves and woods. The climatic conditions in the area are capable of producing wines of great charm and endowed with all the essential prerequisites for quality in the glass.
Vinification
Harvesting of the grapes is followed by alcoholic fermentation and maceration for 12-13 days in combined steel and wood vats at controlled temperature
Refinement
The wine matures for 2 years, 90% in French oak barrels, made according to company production specifications, and the remaining 10% in Slavonian oak barrels. Before release on the market, the wine matures in the bottle for a further 12 months.

Sommelier Suggestion | We recommend pouring the wine into the decanter for a few hours to allow it to aerate and awaken all the aromas. This wine is one of the great Italian red wines particularly suitable for ageing. Remarkable already if drunk now, but we suggest to let it rest in the cellar to reach a full and harmonious maturity, with important aromatic evolutions. Ageing capacity of over 10 years. |
Tasting Notes | In the glass it has an intense ruby red colour. The nose is complex but immediately captivating, fresh and sweet, red and black fruit, tobacco and liquorice and hints of spice such as vanilla. The entry in the mouth is soft and velvety, well integrated with the tannic texture and freshness. It closes in a sweet and gentle finish of great persistence. |
Pairing Advice | |
Pairing | An excellent companion to accompany an entire meal. First courses with meat sauce, second courses of stewed meat, game and grilled meat, but also suitable to be enjoyed with blue cheese. |
