The long-awaited Tulip and Spring Festival returns to the shores of Castiglione del Lago after a two-year forced hiatus: the event, now in its 52nd edition, promises a truly innovative formula, in keeping with tradition, starting with its duration, from 18 April to 1 May, with 14 days.

New features presented in 2022

There are many new features for the 2022 edition, including the parade of floats decorated with tulip petals, which will be tripled and will take place on 24 and 25 April and, the big news, at night on the evening of 30 April, with a new party area at Belvedere del Poggio, already discovered and enhanced in the two editions of Luci sul Trasimeno.

During the public presentation at Palazzo della Corgna, the president of Eventi Castiglione del Lago, Marco Cecchetti, said: "Our mission is to create moments of aggregation and entertainment, enhancing the territory and building opportunities for economic development, improving the quality of life and stimulating a sense of belonging to make us feel increasingly proud to be Castiglionesi. This long tradition means that Castiglione del Lago is known above all for our festival". Also present were the Councillor for Events Filippo Santiccioli, the Director of the GAL Trasimeno Orvietano Francesca Caproni, the Mayor of Castiglione del Lago Matteo Burico and representatives of the associations involved.

Marco Cecchetti explained the importance of returning to bet on the tulip, one of the most entertaining festivals, full of emotions and suggestions, but also one of the most important, popular and traditional festivals in Umbria. "A new festival, almost experimental, a "village" festival that we must feel is ours, which focuses on the important and significant enhancement of the Poggio, which continues to be the centre of our events as is the case with the Christmas Tree on the Water. During the Tulip Festival it will host the tavern, the bar, the events area, a children's play area and the dance floor".

A play area, the Ferris wheel in Piazza Dante Alighieri, the dance floor at the Poggio with special evenings, an association area, a picnic area, the Bar del Poggio, market exhibitions and the traditional Taverna del Tulipano are some of the new features for 2022. The renewed Taverna del Trasimeno will involve the entire municipal territory with the main festivals represented in rotation, with theme evenings, which will bring the culinary specialities of the local tradition to the tavern: Villastrada with the "Sagra del Brustico", Panicarola with the "Sagra dell'Agnello", Piana with the "Stramaialata", the Circolo Uisp with roast goose, Porto with the "Sagra del Pesce di Lago" and Soccorso with the "Sagra dei pici fatti a mano".

The parade of floats 2022

Of course, the protagonists are, as always, the floats entirely decorated with tulip petals, which will parade on the 24th, 25th and 30th at night. This year they will be dedicated to the cinema of Federico Fellini, one of the greatest Italian directors, a world icon of "Italianness", an undisputed ambassador of culture, a symbol of our creativity and of the revival of the 1950s and 1960s. A competition will be launched to win the float with the most votes using the hashtag #iotifoper between number 1 (yellow) "Fellini", number 2 (green) "Casanova" and number 3 (red) "La dolce vita". And finally, the photo exhibition "The history of the tulip" along Via Belvedere with 52 photos, one for each edition of the festival. The 2022 floats will therefore represent the desire to be together and the relaunch of the good Italian lifestyle.
